To Remember Baby Hope
Although some 15,000 New Zealand women and their families are affected by abortion each year, it is still largely a taboo subject. Many women, while relieved to have found an answer to their situation, feel grief at the loss of their baby and find it difficult to work through their feelings and gain a sense of closure.
This week we feature the poignant story of Marina, whose desire is to create a tangible way to remember the baby she lost 20 years ago to abortion, and to make this available to other women and their families.
She came up with the Buttons Project which aims to collect thousands of buttons from women, fathers, grandparents and anyone wishing to commemorate a baby they never got to meet. Marina plans to display these in an appropriate manner as a memorial, a way to remember, to grieve and to love. It will be a collective statement that says, “What happened mattered.” She hopes that for many it will be another step along the road to healing.
Read the article and follow the link to the Buttons Project website. It is beautifully done and well worth a visit.
