Last week Sandy Myhre took us on a tropical holiday to Tahiti, and it was so good to escape the inclement New Zealand weather, even if only in the imagination. This week she takes us from London to Paris aboard Eurostar. Read her travel piece and I guarantee you’ll want to find a classy train to take you on your next adventure.
If it’s not possible to catch some rays in warmer climes we all need to at least make sure our bodies aren’t deficient in vitamin D and this is surprisingly easy to do, as Gail Matthew explains. If you’re single and open to finding a good man, you absolutely must check out Jackie O’Dwyer’s beautifully funny-but-serious article on where and how to go fishing―for love.
All of us feel stretched for time and money and this can make us think we have nothing to offer those who are struggling. Cheryl Megchelse refuses to let this stop her, and has challenged herself (and us) to live life with her head up, eyes open and hand outstretched to women who may need a helping hand. It is an interesting paradox that the greater the suffering the more the smallest act of kindness means. It might not make the problem disappear but the comfort it brings is like the light of a small candle on a dark night.
Those who know someone suffering may feel that the little they can do is so inadequate as to be laughable or, worse still, an insult to the person. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are not very often responsible for ‘fixing’ someone else’s problem, but we are responsible to show them somebody knows and gives a hoot. Just because we can’t offer a magic solution doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do. It’s not a case of ‘all or nothing’, but of ‘what’s in my hand?’
