Leigh Kelly RN ADN has been working with the elderly for over 34 years. She has owned her own rest home, managed a rest home, been a charge nurse in the public sector and, more recently, is an educator and consultant in the aged care industry.

She has written two books. Her first, Life’s an Illusion, was released in 1997 and her second book, The Art of Caregiving – A guide to caregiver satisfaction, was released in August 2008.

Not only has Leigh interviewed many people who having to face placing a loved one in care, she has also had to face putting her own mother into care and understands all the dilemmas a person goes through at such a time.

Leigh offers practical advice to people who are having to face this situation. 

Leigh has a personal mission in life, which is to bring back the value of the person in care. She has heard for years the different nursing models that were supposed to teach people to be less task orientated and develop patient centred care. This is not happening across the board in areas of care, be it from registered nurses or caregivers. The art of caregiving can be taught and will result when people understand people and know what their role is in caring. It is as simple as that.
